Intro

Welcome to my Devilgotchi page! Among the rarest Tamagotchis like the Yasashii, Oceangotchi (English), Santagotchis, etc, these Devils are really rare, really pricey, but a must-have in any vintage collection. Here I'll tell you all about my experiences with the Devilgotchi released in September 1998. This page is heavily inspired by the websites Ginjirotchi.ca and The Mouse House. Please check them out!

I have owned a Devilgotchi since I was a young child, maybe around age 12 (so 2008ish). I had the misfortune of bringing it into a pool because I was a careless kid, and it shorted out my tama! I barely had the chance to play it in my younger years, but as of December 2020 I offically purchased a new one that I could play. I've ran it a few times and had some good times, and even logged one of my runs. If you want to see my logs and pictures of my tamas, feel free to browse below :)

My thoughts

Kabodebitchi

The Devilgotchi is one of my least favorite of the vintage Tamagotchis. I know, I know... it's super pricey and rare. It's definitely an awesome tama to own! But the game play is not my favorite. My least favorite aspect about this tama is that its life-span is much longer than the average vintage tama. Rather than each stage lasting 3 days, the Devilgotchi stages last 4 days. You won't be reaching the "final stage" until about day 12 which is nearly a week after a P1/P2 would be an adult! I dislike waiting so long :(

I have yet to mention the insane beeping it does in the middle of the night! Because these are little tricksters, they will often play tricks on you at night, literally 12AM, 2AM, and such, and beep loudly while an event plays on the screen. The beeps are high pitched and most people dislike them, me included.

The screws are also an issue. The Devilgotchi models are known for "soft screws" which often strip or break easily, making it difficult to replace the batteries. God forbid you break your screws on your little $500 vintage toy :'( Moreover, I'm very hesitant to play these out in public especially without a protection case. I don't want to risk damaging such a rare and expensive Tamagotchi. Nonetheless, I can still appreciate the good things about this tama.

Devilgotchi growth chart

The Devilgotchi is unique in its theme and feel compared to other vintage models. Mirroring the Angelgotchi's "Angel Power", you have to raise your devil with "Devil Power" which, when increased, makes your little devil more mischievious and fiendish. The higher the devil power, the more tricks your tama will play on you which is an interesting feature. The game itself is fun, because you have to catch stars in your devilgotchis mouth as they fall. As I mentioned before, the life span is nearly double what you would expect from other vintage models so if you enjoy having your companion around for a long time then you will enjoy the company of your devil.

Devilgotchi colleciton

The design is impeccable. Not only does the Devilgotchi boast a diverse range of spooky-themed Devil characters that are all adorable, the shell designs are among the best of all vintage models. All of them are slick, elegant, and pop out at your eyes. I have yet to decide my favorite :P It's switched between the White/black trim, Black/purple trim, and White/Purple half-and-half. The pink one has been my least favorite; though, it has grown on me over the years.

King Deviltchi

Would I recommend you add this Tamagotchi to your collection? If you can afford the pricey $400-600 it costs to acquire it, absolutely. I think it's unique, fun (despite its negative), and a noteworthy addition to a collection. I wish Bandai would either release the Tamagotchi Monster app again so people can try this tama out, OR they could re-release an international version like they did the 20th Anniversary P1/P2s! A guy can dream :P
